Dominique Dupuis

Dominique’s charm and her passion for the violin are very much a part of her entire personality.  She plays her fiddle with much enthusiasm and energy.  A native of Memramcook, Dominique started to play the fiddle at seven years of age.  Her talent and motivation were apparent from the very beginning when Dominique was taking both traditional and classical lessons.  After only three years, she was learning the tunes not only by note but also by ear.  Dominique has two solo CD’s to her collection -Sans Relâche et Le bonheur des coups d’archet.  She dreams of one day pursuing a career in music.

This young lady is already a very accomplished fiddler.  At the young age of 17, Dominique, also referred to by the French media as Acadia’s young ambassador of charm, gave an absolutely magnificent performance in front of an enormous crowd of over 55,000 people in Paris’Stade de France during the televised production of la Nuit Celtique, on March 20, 2004.

As 2004 was a very special year for all Acadians, numerous activities were held in celebration of Acadie’s 400 th anniversary. Dominique participated in these festivities performing at numerous venues throughout the summer. Amongst these was the mega-show during the closing ceremonies for the Congrès Mondial des Acadiens on August 15 th, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. More than 10,000 people attended this special event which was aired nationally on CBC.

In June 2004, Dominique once again ignored all boarders and traveled to Italy spreading a bit of her Acadie in Italy, in the beautiful Aosta Valley during the CELTICA 2004 Festival.  Her tour continued and brought her to France where she participated in the VISA Francophone Festival in Villefranche de Rouergue.

A European tour kicked off the very eventful year 2004. This young ambassador completed a series of 14 performances in France and Belgium over a three-week period in January. In October 2003, Dominique received a very warm welcome during a mini-tour in Québec with performances in Sherbrooke, Granby and Drummondville

Dominique has received numerous awards over the years; however, one of her most memorable and special moments was during the Gala des prix Étoiles de l’ARCANB where she received the award for the Instrumental Piece of the Year with “The Hurricane”. At the 2003 ECMA Awards, Dominique was a finalist in the Instrumental Artist of the Year category. Recipient of the Acadie-Rideau Award during Francofête Dieppe-Moncton 2002, Dominique was showcased in Quebec City during the Bourse Rideau in February 2003.

Her experience is not limited to a solo career, Dominique played with the group Vishtèn from April 2003 to August 2003. During this time, the group traveled extensively leaving their mark in France, Louisiana, Ottawa, Gaspésie, Iles-de-la-Madeleine, Michigan, California, Massachussetts as well as the renowned Lincoln Center in New York City.

Dominique is a member of the group Shaïda. She has also played with the following bands:  Clearwater(Garth Brooks Tribute Tour), Harmonie and Image. July 2002, was Dominique’s first time to Europe where she traveled to Switzerlandfor the Festival de la Cité in Lausanneand the Expo 2002 in Yverdons-des-Bains.  Wind in her sails, she returned to Europe in August 2002 for a mini-tour in France where she played at the prestigious Festival Interceltique de Lorient, the Festival de la danse Bretonne et de la Saint Loup, the Déferlantes Francophones, and Acadie en Ré.

This vibrant teenager continues to leave her mark everywhere she sows seeds from her natal Acadie. Her ultimate goal, her mission will always be to make people happy.
